As I got older, I started collecting football shirts properly, especially Sunderland shirts. I wanted the home, away and third kit from each season, because even if the season itself was not always memorable, the shirt still marked that year.
There have not been loads of memorable Sunderland seasons through my adult years, although recent times have obviously served us very well, but that almost made the shirts matter even more. A shirt can remind you of a season, even if the football itself was painful.
Over time, that turned into collecting more random shirts from different clubs and countries, from Sunderland to Rangers, Chapecoense, Barcelona, Inter Miami and more obscure kits that just had something interesting about them.
